The Core Conversation, No. 3
I got injured.
And just like that-
my body stopped doing
what it’s always done.
Not forever.
But long enough
to change everything.
Because movement, for me, has never just been physical.
It’s how I process.
How I reset.
How I understand myself.
So when that changes-
it’s not just about what you can’t do.
It forces a deeper question:
Who are you when your body can’t move the way you’re used to?
This is where I’m at right now.
Not stepping away from movement-
but being forced to evolve it.
Because injury doesn’t just challenge you physically.
It challenges your habits.
Your identity.
Your mindset.
It removes the option
to rely on what’s familiar.
And that’s the hard part.
Not the injury itself-
but accepting
you can’t approach your practice
the same way anymore.
So now, the practice changes.
It becomes less about pushing
and more about listening.
Less about proving
and more about understanding.
This is where everything slows down.
Where you start to notice
what your body is actually asking for-
instead of what you’re used to demanding from it.
And in that space,
something shifts.
Strength starts to look different.
Not louder.
Not harder.
But more intentional.
There’s something humbling about that.
Because you don’t get to rush it.
You don’t get to override it.
You have to meet your body
exactly where it is.
And mentally-
that’s the real work.
But this is the practice too.
Not the version that performs.
Not the version that looks strong from the outside.
The quieter version.
The one that asks you to pay attention,
adjust,
and rebuild with intention.
So I’m opening this up-
Not for sympathy.
But for conversation.
Have you ever had to change
the way you move?
What did that teach you?
Because I’m starting to realize—
The practice doesn’t disappear
when things change.
It evolves.
And if you let it,
it can bring you back stronger-
just in a different way.
The practice doesn’t end.
It evolves.
